Before the coronavirus pandemic suspended the season indefinitely, the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery was supposed to take place Tuesday night. With only a few regular-season games likely to be played, even if a champion is crowned at some point this summer, the odds for the eventual lottery are unlikely to change much.

The Golden State Warriors are at the bottom of the overall standings with a 15-50 record, four games worse than any other team. The defending Western Conference champions have a 14% chance to land the No.1 overall pick. They have a 47.9% chance to get the No.5 selection, and they can’t fall any lower than that as the NBA’s worst team.

It’s quite the fall for Golden State, who has made five straight trips to the NBA Finals with three championships. Kevin Durant left in free agency and Klay Thompson has missed the whole season with a torn ACL. Stephen Curry has been limited to five games because of a broken hand.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves are just ahead of Golden State in the standings. The teams with the NBA’s three-worst records all have the exact same odds (14% for No.1, 13.4% for No.2, 12.7% for No.3, 12% for No.4) to get the first four picks in the draft.

Cleveland can fall as a low as sixth overall, based on the current standings. Minnesota has a 7% chance to fall to seventh.

The Cavs are one of the three-worst teams for the second straight year. Cleveland won the lottery in 2003 (LeBron James), 2011 (Kyrie Irving), 2013 (Anthony Bennett) and 2014 (Andrew Wiggins). The team drafted Darius Garland fifth overall in 2019.

The Atlanta Hawks (12.5%) and Detroit Pistons (10.5%) both have better than a 10% chance to win the lottery.

The New York Knicks rank sixth with a 9% chance to earn the first pick. They are followed by the Chicago Bulls (7.5%), Charlotte Hornets (6%) and Washington Wizards (4.5%).

A year after the New Orleans Pelicans drafted Zion Williamson first overall, the team has a 1.2% chance to win the lottery. New Orleans is 3.5 games out of the final playoff spot in the West.

The Pelicans had a 6% chance to win the 2019 lottery. The Memphis Grizzlies also had a 6% chance and got the second pick. The Knicks ended up third while owning the league’s worst record.

Last year’s lottery was highly anticipated with Williamson and Ja Morant entering the NBA. There won’t be nearly as much fanfare surrounding the 2020 lottery, whenever it takes place, because of the perceived weak draft class.

Georgia guard Anthony Edwards, Dayton forward Obi Toppin and point guard LaMelo Ball are among the best draft prospects.
