Google has been rumored to launch three Pixel devices — a flagship and its larger version. The company is rumored to launch the third Pixel device this year, details about which were mostly sketchy till now, although by most accounts, it was being called a larger device, somewhat even larger than the Pixel XL, with many reports calling it the Pixel XL 2.

But, new details emerged about the Pixel XL 2 in a GFXBench listing Friday. Despite the name, which is similar to the 2016 Pixel XL device, chances are that this is still third Pixel device, since the size of the display is peculiar – the listing states that the Google Pixel XL 2 will have a 5.6-inch display, which is mid-way between the 5-inch expected flagship size and 6-inch XL variant size.

The possible scenarios are:

  • Google has shrunk the Google XL display size to 5.6-inch, so the company is launching Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 smartphones.
  • There is indeed a third variant, which the company is calling the Pixel XL 2.

Whatever be the case, the device would pose as a major rival to the soon-to-be-released Apple’s iPhone 8 and the recently released Samsung Galaxy S8, which brings us to the display resolution — since the Samsung Galaxy S8 is has a high-resolution edge-to-edge display and the iPhone 8 is rumored to have one, the expectation is that Google too, endows its flagship with a similar one. According to the listing, the Google Pixel XL 2 has a 2560 x 1312p display, which, when you calculate the aspect ratio, comes to 18:9. This strengthens the likelihood that the device could have a display with either very thin edges like the LG G6 or an edge-to-edge one, like the S8. The former seems more probable since LG is rumored to be supplying the curved panels for the Google Pixel 2017 smartphones.

The listing also mentions a Qualcomm octa-core CPU with ARM v8 processor architecture. The device was earlier expected to have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, but according to what the listing indicates, it might have an octa-core Snapdragon 836, which is even faster and more efficient than the 835 and is rumored to be featured on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.Furthermore, the listing states that the device will have 4GB RAM and 128GB onboard memory, which will make it a pretty powerful device.

One more feature that has been revealed is the device’s 12-megapixe camera, capable of shooting high-resolution UHD 4K videos. The Google Pixel’s has been called the best smartphone camera of 2016 by camera benchmarking site DxOmark, and the listing has revealed that Google is aiming to build on the 2016 Pixel series’ success by endowing its 2017 flagships with an even more powerful camera.

Finally, one of the most awaited features of Google Pixel 1 is Android O, the next iteration of Android, which is expected to launch alongside it.
