A 78-year-old woman from South Carolina has been accused of helping cover up a murder that her grandson is suspected of committing.

The elderly woman, identified as Edna Faye Daniels, from Georgetown, was arrested on Jan. 27 for allegedly helping his grandson, 30-year-old Ryan O'Neil Woodruff, cover up a murder that took place last week, Law & Crime reported.

Woodruff was arrested on Jan. 25 for the fatal shooting of 19-year-old TyQuez Demetrius Walker at Daniels' home. Daniel witnessed the incident but lied to the police when they interviewed her. Investigators have not revealed more details about the case.

Daniel now faces charges of obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to murder. She "knowingly and willfully provide materially false information to law enforcement investigators on several occasions while being questioned about a homicide she directly witnessed that occurred in her residence," the arrest affidavit reportedly indicated.

"There are consequences for lying to the police during a criminal investigation," Sheriff Carter Weaver said, according to the New York Post.

Walker's fatal shooting occurred while Woodruff was out on a $100,000, as he was also facing charges for killing two of his relatives in May 2021. The victims of the earlier incident, who reportedly lived with Woodruff, were found dead with blunt-force trauma injuries to the head when police responded to their residence for a welfare check.

Woodruff also faces attempted murder charges on a separate case in Williamsburg County, reports said, as per Law & Crime.

Anyone with information about the recent shooting has been asked to contact the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5102.

In a similar incident, a mother was arrested in India in 2021 for covering up her 7-year-old daughter's death after her lover killed the child. The woman, identified as V. Vijayalakshmi, from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, was taken into custody alongside her lover and distant relative R. Vetrivel after the latter pushed the girl to the ground and assaulted her while he was in an inebriated state. After the child was pronounced dead at the hospital, the couple reportedly tried to cover up the crime by throwing the victim's body in a river.
