A grandmother who abducted her 12-year-old granddaughter from a hospital at gunpoint was arrested Sunday by the police.

The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 66-year-old Evelyn Miller at a hotel in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Evelyn had taken her granddaughter, Adreana Miller, at gunpoint from Ochsner hospital on Valentine's day at around 5 p.m.

Evelyn had pointed out her gun at the hospital staff when they tried to stop her from removing Adreana from her hospital room. She then fled the scene with her granddaughter in a 2019 Toyota Sienna.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office in a social media press release stated, “In making her escape from the location, she pushed one nurse to the ground and struck a security guard with her vehicle." However, no one was physically injured in the incident, the statement added.

They were located within 24 hrs at a hotel located in Bogalusa, Louisiana, about 70 miles north of Ochsner hospital. The granddaughter was found unharmed.

Evelyn is being charged with simple Kidnapping, two counts of simple battery, violation of a firearm-free zone, and five counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.

" We extend our appreciation to our partners in law enforcement who assisted with this investigation, including the Louisiana State Police and the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, and to our local media and members of the public who shared the information about the incident and helped us bring it to a swift closure," a press release by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the authorities, Evelyn's motives for kidnapping her granddaughter were still somewhat unclear.
