Jo quickly stopped DeLuca from revealing his feelings for her on “Grey’s Anatomy” last season, but that doesn’t mean they’ll never talk about it. Actor Giacomo Gianniotti hinted that DeLuca and Jo might have better luck in Season 14.

“I think he just jumped the gun a bit,” Gianniotti told TVLine. “Jo just went through this crazy traumatic experience [with Alex]. It was so fresh. I think he should’ve waited a little bit. And if he does wait a little bit [before approaching her again] she might have more of an open mind.”

To be fair, Jo (Camilla Luddington) was going through a lot. DeLuca was pressing charges against Alex (Justin Chambers), and Jo feared she would have to testify and reveal that she has an abusive husband (Matthew Morrison). Then DeLuca dropped the charges, but now Alex knows about her secret marriage. Jo had a stressful year, and it just wasn’t a good time. But could the right time be coming?

Luddington seems to think that Jo might realize her feelings for DeLuca as soon as he stops being available. “This season’s going to be very sexy. ... I can imagine [Jo] maybe feeling a little bit jealous if DeLuca started dating someone else,” Luddington hinted to TV Guide.

However, Luddington also added that Jo might need some time to be a single lady. “But I think she’s at a time in her life right now where she has to deal with her own emotional journey and what she’s going through in her past ... before she really jumps straight into a relationship with someone else. There’s some stuff that she has to work through,” she added.

Regardless of how romantic their relationship may or may not be, Jo and DeLuca will always have some sort of connection. “They were great friends before and confidantes during a traumatic moment in her life,” Gianniotti told Entertainment Tonight. “There’s definitely bonding that happened there regardless. I see them having some kind of a relationship, whether it’s love or friends.”

They might need to lean on each other as friends for now. Both will have to deal with their pasts coming back into their lives. Jo’s husband Paul (Matthew Morrison) will return. His last appearance only included scenes with Alex, but will he actually see Jo this time?

Meanwhile, there will be a new woman at Sloan Grey Memorial Hospital and she’s a major player from DeLuca’s past. Don’t worry, DeLuca/Jo shippers, she won’t be a love interest. As previously reported, Stefania Spampinato will play DeLuca’s sister Carina, who has just arrived from Italy. The DeLuca siblings have some major differences and those will cause tension right away.

Of course, Carina DeLuca isn’t the only sister suddenly showing up in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14. Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) sister Megan was found in the finale. In the new episodes, Owen and Megan’s husband Riggs (Martin Henderson) will have to adjust to the soldier finally returning. After being a prisoner of war for so long, it will likely be a even more difficult transition for her.

Megan will look a little different than she did in flashbacks. Although Bridget Regan previously portrayed the redhead, her commitments to TNT’s “The Last Ship” (which stars “Grey’s” alum Eric Dane) prevented her from returning. Abigail Spencer will take over the role.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14 premieres Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC with a two-hour episode.
