  • The single also mentions space, with Grimes singing, "Even love couldn’t keep you in your place"

Grimes has dropped a new song that appears to take subtle jabs at her ex-boyfriend Elon Musk.

On Friday, the 33-year-old singer, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, released a lyric video for her new song "Player of Games," which references gaming, something the Tesla CEO apparently loves, TMZ reported.

"I'm in love with the greatest gamer," Grimes croons in the track, "but he'll always love the game more than he loves me."

Musk was creating video games before he became a millionaire at the age of 27, NDTV reported. Moreover, he acknowledged his love for video games back in January while responding to a question on Twitter asking him about his favorite console game. "Only 'Halo,'" Musk wrote, referring to a military science fiction video game.

Around the 0:36 mark of the lyric video, Grimes mentions space, further fueling speculation that the song is about the SpaceX founder and CEO.

"Sail away to the cold expanse of space, even love couldn’t keep you in your place," she sings.

In September, Musk told Page Six that his work was the main reason for his split from Grimes.

"We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms," the billionaire said at the time. "It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in L.A. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room."

Grimes and Musk dated for three years before they parted ways. They share one child together, 1-year-old son X Æ A-Xii, whom they welcomed in 2020.

In a previous interview, the "Oblivion" singer admitted that she felt like she was sacrificing her power when she had "unprotected sex" with Musk because for her, getting pregnant means giving up one's body and freedom.

"I do actually just really love my boyfriend. So I was like, ‘You know, sure,'" she told Rolling Stone of Musk. "He's just very good at talking me out of my bulls--t. I've learned a lot about controlling my state of mind."

Grimes also revealed during an interview with Vogue in September that her son calls her by her first name, Claire, rather than mom or mama. She admitted that she couldn't identify with the word and suggested that her son may have sensed her "distaste for the word 'mother.'"

In addition to his son with Grimes, Musk shares five children – twins Griffin and Xavier, 17, and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai, 15 – with his first ex-wife, author Justine Wilson. Their first son, Nevada, was born in 2002 but died of sudden infant death syndrome at only 10 weeks old.

Musk was also previously married to "Westworld" star Talulah Riley. They married in 2010 and divorced in 2012, only to remarry in 2013. They divorced a second time in 2016.
