• New information about "GTA 6" surfaced online
  • It claims that the title would finally have a female protagonist
  • Rockstar Games remains mum on the heavily rumored title

"GTA 6" will reportedly feature a female protagonist and if it's true, it would be the first-ever major development that happened in the popular "Grand Theft Auto" franchise.

The new detail about the rumored Rockstar Games title came from industry insider and owner and CEO of Viral Junkie TomHenderson. On Twitter, Henderson shared that "GTA 6" will feature a playable female and male protagonist. When later asked if he was referring to the "GTA" game that journalist Jason Schreier previously revealed, he answered, "nope."

The CEO's statement stirred speculations and caused confusion in the "GTA" community. Some fans started to wonder if the rumored female main protagonist of "GTA 6" will be like Arthur Morgan or Niko Bellic, who are full-fledged characters, or if Rockstar Games would allow players to select the gender of their in-game character. Several others believe that the upcoming title would feature multiple protagonists just like in "GTA 5."

GTA V came out in 2013 and it was well-received by fans everywhere. The newest installment in the series, GTA VI, is set to come out anytime soon however details are still scarce. strelkin / Flickr

Sadly, the venture Junkie CEO has nothing else to share for now. However, before fans get too excited, it is worth noting that this piece of information from Henderson is not official. His short text failed to mention any sources and fans should take it with a pinch of salt.

Since the inception of the "Grand Theft Auto" series, its protagonist has always been male. The game developer introduced players to various time periods from the 80s to the 90s but never seemed to have thought about letting players explore its cities with a female protagonist. If the information is accurate, this is the first time ever that players would be able to play as a female protagonist.

Rockstar Games has not yet confirmed that it is working on "GTA 6" as of writing. According to rumors, the game has been in development since 2019.

Meanwhile, "GTA 5" was recently hailed as one of the top three best-selling games in the U.K. in 2020. The 2013 action-adventure title from Rockstar Games sits beside expected hit games like "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War" and "FIFA 21." The data include the physical and digital sales of the games.
