Mesut Ozil has drawn interest from other clubs, but nothing has been sealed.

But with time to spare, there is a high chance that the German defender could be moving on and playing for another team before the January transfer window closes.

However, it cannot be discounted that some players who shone brightly for the Gunners are disappointed. One of them is Michael Thomas, someone who knows what winning is all about.

Thomas is one of the central figures that helped Arsenal during its glory years, particularly in 1989 and 1991.

He still keeps track of the developments tied to his former team, particularly the plight of Ozil. As far as he is concerned, the 32-year-old could have been so much more if only he rendered a more consistent performance when he spoke with CaughtOffside.

“Amazing vision and quality but not enough consistency to go with these attributes,” Thomas stated. “His partnership with [Alexis] Sanchez could have been so much more, but blossomed at times.”

The 53-year-old also lauded the efforts of academy graduates who heeded the all. Players like Emile Smith Rowe have stepped up, a young and rising footballer who has shown willingness to improve and help the Gunners’ cause.

“He’s a player who doesn’t show fear and knows the quality he can bring to the team, whilst showing the work ethic and willingness to keep improving we need at Arsenal,” Thomas batted.

But it remains that Arteta needs to fill a void with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette having a rough go this season.

Thomas feels that part of their struggles is that they are playing in positions where they are not comfortable.

Though the need to adjust is apparent, Thomas hints that Aubameyang will eventually get his confidence and groove back.

He pointed out how things have improved for the Gunners as of late and it may only be a matter of time before things come together.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal will finally get a load off if Ozil secures a deal with some clubs.

If the German does depart, it would give the Gunners the financial flexibility they need to pursue someone who can man the middle. For now, that candidate remains unknown.
