  • Havertz misses Bayer Leverkusen performance tests
  • Havertz may be nearing transfer to Chelsea FC
  • Tammy Abraham draws interest from other clubs but transfer chances low

It is no secret that Kai Havertz is close to moving to Chelsea FC. Though nothing official has been announced, it appears that recent developments have pushed that possibility even closer to becoming a reality.

According to Bild, Havertz missed Bayer Leverkusen's performance tests over the weekend, hinting that a transfer to Stamford Bridge is nearing completion. The 21-year-old was present Friday and Saturday to undergo two coronavirus tests although these were part of his plans to be part of upcoming national team matches for Germany.

Once official, Frank Lampard will have added another big name to the mix. A Havertz coming to Stamford Bridge was imminent. Chelsea has already taken in big names in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech earlier. Ben Chilwell heads the list of recently signed acquisitions.

Other players whose new faces include Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr. Sarr, however, could be loaned out to Bayer which could help further boost the pursuit of Havertz.

In a previous post, it was mentioned how Chelsea was already in advanced talks with Bayer on Havertz. Die Werkself wants roughly $118 million for the German midfielder. Once sealed, he will become the Blues record transfer, surpassing the $95 million deal Chelsea spent on Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.

In related developments, Tammy Abraham has drawn interest from other clubs. The 22-year-old is a target from former loanee club Aston Villa though critics feel the chances are low. Abraham had 26 goals last season and has shown no indication of wanting to leave Stamford Bridge. Instead, most see him battling Werner for first-team honors.

Aside from Havertz, Lampard is also on the prowl for a goalkeeper. The Blues had their eyes on Dean Henderson but the 23-year-old shot-stopper signed a fresh long-term lease with Manchester United.

Jan Oblak is an option but his stiff asking fee of $145 million stands in the way. The latest name on Lampard's list is Edouard Mendy of Rennes. After failing in their first attempt, the Blues have submitted an improved offer for the 28-year-old goalkeeper. The initial bid was roughly $20 million.

With Kepa and Willy Caballero alternating as goalkeepers, Lampard was far from impressed. Kepa's future remains unknown although there are several teams interested in him but on loan. This includes Sevilla and Valencia.
