HBO's "The Last of Us" series will premiere on HBO Max Jan. 15.

The highly anticipated show stars "Game of Thrones" actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as lead characters Joel and Ellie, respectively. The project is being led by "Chernobyl" creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog Studios, the developer behind the 2013 game that inspired the series.

The studio behind the series has promised the show will remain faithful to the game. The characters Joel and Elli are two survivors in a post-apocalyptic America overrun by zombie-like creatures called infected. The pair journey across the country, battling the infected, human foes and the elements. HBO in September unveiled a teaser trailer for the show.
A sequel to "The Last of Us," titled "The Last of Us Part II," was released in 2020.
