Retired NBA star Dwyane Wade is likely to issue something again soon with some outlets alleging that he may return this coming season. However, it comes with a twist - that of which is if the Miami Heat are in playoff contention.

Yahoo Sports NBA insider Chris Haynes made the forecast, believing Wade could make a sudden return if the Heat are in contention. Looking at the Miami Heat roster, they could pull off something. However, it all boils down to who is in and who is out.

“I’ll say this: I think if Miami is in contention, and I don’t know that can happen without Chris Paul, but if they are in contention, I can see a scenario where they can lure Dwyane Wade back. I think if he did come back, it’d be back in Miami. I think there’s a good chance he would come out of retirement at some point,” said Haynes.

Leading the Heat this season is new acquisition, Jimmy Butler. Chris Paul has long been rumored as another target. But because of his monstrous contract and the likelihood of the Oklahoma City Thunder asking for future picks, the South Beach squad has opted for a wait-and-see approach. Much of this was covered in a previous post.

Miami could pull off some personnel moves as they try to fix their financial situation. Apparently, their investment in certain players has not paid off. So far, only Hassan Whiteside has been unloaded (to the Portland Trail Blazers). Other players reportedly on the block include Goran Dragic, James Johnson, and Dion Waiters.

Dragic was close to being shipped to the Dallas Mavericks last summer. Talks bogged down and the Slovenian guard will have to wait if the Heat intend to pursue a trade for him. Johnson and Waiters have so far not been linked to other teams.

Seeing the Heat reach the playoffs is possible. However, it may take a herculean effort on the part of Butler and the current crew. Adding a second star could work. Paul could be a big boost although his durability is in question.

There was also talk of potentially trading for Bradley Beal and John Wall of the Washington Wizards. If that materializes, then the Heat could get a big boost making it past the NBA regular season wars.
