Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are celebrating their first Christmas in the new California home, this year. For the second year in a row, Prince Harry is not visiting his family. Therefore, the Duchess is making sure the day is “special” for him.

The royal families are known to have their own Christmas traditions. And this year, the couple will be making their own Christmas traditions, according to PEOPLE.

"It's Harry's second Christmas away from England, and Meghan wants to make sure it's special for everyone," a source told the outlet. "They are creating their own traditions at their new home."

This happens to be their first Christmas away from London since they stepped down as senior royals and exited the British royal family. Last year, the pair along with their son Archie celebrated Christmas in Canada during a six-week break.

Earlier this year, during the lockdown, the Sussex family moved to their $14.7 million mansion in Montecito, which is only 100 miles away from Los Angeles, which happens to be Meghan and her mother Doria Ragland’s hometown.

As per the outlet, the Duchess has already planned the holiday season and decorated the new home for Christmas, along with the family.

"They both love Christmas and have been decorating with Archie," a source told PEOPLE.

The report about their Christmas plan arrived two days after they released their first American Christmas card. It featured an illustration of a picture taken by Meghan’s mother of the family-of-three.

"Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," the card said.

Earlier this month, Prince Harry and Meghan stepped out of their home to find the perfect Christmas tree. Their low-key visit made headlines after the owner of the tree barn tweeted about their visit, reporting a funny incident.

“Meghan and Prince Harry came into my work today and we sold them their Christmas Tree,” said Twitter user @imaJaaaaaames, in a now-deleted tweet.

"We had our lot empty when they got there - their agent promoted them a good time to come instead of us shutting it down. There was one family in there and their stoked little son ran through trees up to Harry and asked if he worked here not knowing who that is," the worker explained.

Meanwhile, back in London, the British royal family including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton are skipping traditional Christmas celebrations at Sandringham Estate. The family is expected to stay apart due to COVID-19 restrictions in their area.
