Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Cristiano Ronaldo by terming him “the best in the world” before adding he would love to bring the former Red Devils superstar back to Old Trafford.

While Solskjaer kickstarted his playing career at Norwegian club Molde, Ronaldo’s journey began at Sporting Lisbon and from there, he had moved to Man Utd, the club that made him a global figure. The two forwards then were teammates during Ronaldo’s six-year stint at Man Utd between 2003 and 2009. Solskjaer, who represented just two clubs in his 12-year club career, made 366 appearances for Man Utd before leaving the Premier League side in 2007.

After playing soccer for over a decade, Solskjaer took up the managerial role and currently is in charge of his former club, Man Utd. In a recent interview, when Solskajer was asked which of his 1999 treble-winning teammates he would like to have on his current Man Utd side, he named Roy Keane and Paul Scholes.

However, the Norwegian was quick to mention that he also played alongside Ronaldo, who according to him is “the best in the world”.

“Don’t forget I played with Cristiano and he’s the best player in the world — so I wouldn’t mind having him in my team too,” said Solskajer before he recollected an 18-year-old Ronaldo who had moved to the Threatre of Dreams from Sporting Lisbon, as per The Sun.

Solskjaer also revealed that he and the other senior players just needed to “guide him” sometimes to remain focused.

“Cristiano always wanted to be the best but he was shaped by the environment he came to at United. We — the more experienced players — just had to guide him once in a while. We could see a world-class talent with the best attributes you could see. But there were little things we could help with. You could see he was not going to let anything get in the way of being the best in the world. You have to make sacrifices — and he did,” the 47-year-old said.
