Will the rumored "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff focus on Cristin Milioti's character? CBS

“How I Met Your Mother” may be done when season 9 comes to an end, but creators Carter Bayes and Craig Thomas could be introducing a new gang to make you laugh. Deadline is reporting that CBS is in talks with 20th Century Fox TV to develop a spinoff series for “How I Met Your Mother” -- tentatively titled, “How I Met Your Father.”

This isn’t the first time that fans of the long-running comedy have been teased with a potential spinoff. In January 2012, Thomas told TV Line that they had conversations about “rewinding back to 2005 and doing a series called ‘How I Met Your Father.” According to the executive producer, the show would be from the perspective of the Mother (later revealed to be actress Cristin Milioti) and what she was doing all those years before she met Ted. “Occasionally, she’ll stumble through McLaren’s and no one will see her.”

So, what’s true about the series and what’s fake? We’re breaking down the rumors on the “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff.

The Spinoff Has Been Pitched … But Nothing Is Set In Stone

Entertainment Weekly confirmed Deadline’s report that Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and former “Up All Night” executive producer Emily Spivey pitched a half-hour comedy called “How I Met Your Father.”

Say Goodbye To The Bromance

The spinoff is said to be a “female spin” on “How I Met Your Mother.” It’s set to be a female-led series about a group of friends in New York and the main character’s “quest to meet her future husband.”

Keep Your Bar Stool

Barney, Robin, Ted, Marshall and Lily may be leaving us, but MacLaren’s Pub could potentially be staying. Currently the project has plans to feature the beloved bar in the spinoff.

Will Cristin Milioti Be In It?

Although the series is tentatively called “How I Met Your Father,” the “Father” in question may not be Ted. The rumor is that the spinoff won’t be lead by season 9 newcomer Cristin Milioti, but instead will have a whole new group of friends.
