Prior to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding, the Duke of Cambridge encouraged Kate to consider ending their relationship in order to protect herself from the challenges Princess Diana faced.

When Prince William was young, he witnessed how difficult the paparazzi made his mother’s life due to her marriage to Prince Charles. Before he took his relationship with Kate to the next level, William wanted to make sure she was aware of how drastically her life would change if she decided to marry him.

In the book, “William and Catherine,” Andrew Morton claimed the media put the couple’s relationship through the ultimate test.

During the couple’s engagement interview, Prince William admitted he didn’t want Kate to feel like she made a mistake by marrying him. “I wanted to give her a chance to see in and back out if she needed to before it all got too much,” he explained.

“I’m trying to learn from the past. I just wanted to give her the best chance to settle in and to see what happens on the other side,” William added.

When Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced their engagement, she was hounded by the press and felt alone after leaving her family home.

“It had been so different when Diana became engaged. She had moved away from her family and friends to live with the Queen Mother at Clarence House until the wedding day. As a result, she had felt isolated and alone, unsure how to act and whom to ask for help,” Morton revealed.

However, when Kate and William shared news of their engagement, the couple put on a united front and appeared to be confident in their relationship.

“In consequence, when William and Kate greeted the world together, they seemed more like a couple who had been married for years. They appeared comfortable with each other, knowing all each other’s jokes and stories and which side of the bed each sleeps on,” the royal biographer wrote.

Despite the increased media attention, Prince William and Kate tied the knot in April 2011. Kate and William, who recently celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary, are now parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
