Although Prince William lost his mother at a young age, Princess Diana managed to leave behind a legacy that would help her son and his future wife, Kate Middleton, lead a life that was much easier than the one she endured.

In the 2016 documentary “William and Kate: The Journey,” Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell suggested the late royal is the reason why Kate and William haven’t faced many obstacles as members of the royal family.

“What I find very strange is the fact that Diana’s death secured a safe path for Kate. Diana broke all the molds and made life better for Kate. This is someone she never met. But she did it for her son,” he explained.

Burrell concluded that Princess Diana’s planning for the future has given the Duchess of Cambridge, who will celebrate her 37th birthday on Thursday, the opportunity to live life as a royal on her own terms. “So now Kate has a much easier life, far easier than Diana did at her age.”

Comments about Diana’s contribution to the Duke of Cambridge’s future comes amid reports Diana often leaned on William for “comfort and advice” during her marital problems with Prince Charles.

Diana, Princess of Wales died in a tragic car accident in 1997, a year after finalizing her divorce from Charles.
