  • Hansi Flick could be interested in taking up the charge of German national team
  • Flick has been at Bayern Munich since 2019
  • Under his management, Bayern won the Bundesliga and UCL last season

Bayern Munich are reportedly considering appointing Jurgen Klopp as their manager if the current head coach Hansi Flick decides to quit this summer.

Flick, who joined Bayern Munich in 2019, could leave the Allianz Arena club this summer to take up the charge of the German national team, unnamed sources informed soccer website 90min. International Business Times, however, could not verify it independently.

Having managed the German national team since 2006, Joachim Low recently announced that he would step down from the role following the upcoming European Championships.

Ahead of the 2019-20 season, Flick joined Bayern Munich as an assistant coach, under the management of Niko Kovac. However, when Kovac parted ways with Bayern by mutual consent in November 2019, Flick was promoted to the interim manager position. In April 2020, Bayern offered Flick a new deal that would last until 2023. He justified the faith the club showed in him by helping Bayern Munich defend their Bundesliga title and also win their sixth Champions League trophy.

Bayern Munich defeated Paris-Saint-Germain (PSG) 1-0 in the final in Lisbon to claim the 2020-21 Champions League.

Even though Bayern Munich do not want Flick to leave, the Bundesliga champions have to be prepared if the boss decides to take up the national team’s job.

Liverpool head coach Klopp has been identified as a dream target by many at Allianz Arena, according to 90min. A few board members of Bayern Munich believe Klopp may have started to get frustrated at Liverpool, considering their poor run in the 2020-21 season. The report has further stated that Klopp is unhappy with Liverpool’s recruitment this season. The German boss wanted to sign Timo Werner last summer but was asked to wait for another 12 months by owners Fenway Sports Group. Werner eventually was roped in by Chelsea.

The most recent disagreement between the Liverpool owners and Klopp has been regarding Gini Wijnaldum’s contract. Even after Klopp personally urged the board to offer Wijnaldum a new contract, his request was ignored and now the Dutchman is set to leave Anfield as a free agent in the summer of 2021.

Liverpool’s Premier League defense ended long back and now a top-four finish also looks difficult as the Reds are currently placed sixth in the points table after 31 matches.
