KEY POINTS

  • The Colts get inquiries on the availability of Nyheim Hines
  • The Colts are likely to look for new quarterback following Matt Ryan's permanent benching
  • Indianapolis could get a decent future draft pick rights for trading Hines

With the NFL trade deadline reaching its penultimate point, one player who has allegedly generated interest is running back Nyheim Hines.

The 25-year-old has reportedly generated trade interest ahead of the NFL trade deadline but this still depends if any team would be able to convince the Colts to agree to a deal according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The scribe claimed that multiple unnamed NFL squads have reached out to the Colts and inquired about the 25-year-old's availability.

The inquiries on Hines are understandable considering he has become one of the explosive playmakers for Indianapolis since entering the league in 2018.

However, the former NC State Wolfpack player has not been used as much this 2022-23 NFL season.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that the North Carolina native is under contract through the 2024 NFL season.

This means that any team who would succeed in getting him out of the Colts' hands would only have control of him for two-and-a-half seasons.

Although Hines has proven to be a valuable asset to the Colts, the fact is he may not be getting the proper minutes to show his worth.

It seems that Indianapolis is looking ahead into their future as they start building up their draft class as trading Hines could net them a decent future pick.

Regardless, ballclubs that wish to make last-minute trades are on the clock as the trade deadline is set for 4:00 PM ET on Tuesday, November 1.

One position that the Colts may want to fill up in the future is the quarterback position.

This comes roughly a week after Indianapolis decided on bench starting quarterback Matt Ryan in favor of Sam Ehlinger.

"We are going to make a significant change to the starting lineup," head coach Frank Reich stated during a media availability last October 24.

"We are going to elevate Sam to be the starting quarterback. Extremely difficult decision, obviously, given the respect and admiration we have for Matt Ryan and what he's done and what he's brought here. He's a pro's pro. This guy is special, special, special."

Hence, the Colts will need all the resources they can get to find a future quarterback–either via the NFL Draft or through a trade.
