A 40-year-old man, who believed that his spouse was having an affair, brutally killed his wife Sunday by inflicting horrific stab injuries throughout her body, which included having her stomach ripped apart, police said.

The incident happened in the Indian capital New Delhi. The accused, Harish Kumar, killed his 36-year-old wife Pinki after the couple got into an argument about the woman's alleged affair.

"She had multiple injury marks on her neck and other parts of her body. Her stomach had been ripped apart and her neck and hands were found wrapped with brown tape," an official told The Indian Express.

The police were informed about the alleged crime Sunday evening by the accused's older brother, Vijay Kumar, who runs a small photo studio. "Police rushed to the spot and met Vijay, who informed them that he received a call from Harish that he had killed his wife," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (west district) Urvija Goel.

"He also informed the police that his younger brother was not opening the door and police entered the house after breaking the door open," Goel was quoted as saying in the report by The Indian Express.

“Harish suspected that she might be having an affair with someone and the couple started getting into arguments over this issue,” the police told the outlet.

Upon arrival at the crime scene, police officials found Pinki lying on the bed in a pool of blood while Harish was lying elsewhere inside the room. Harish was taken to a hospital and is currently in stable condition, reported TimesNow.

The crime forensic team of the west district was called to lift the fingerprints from the spot and they have seized two blood-stained knives, two blades and a bundle of brown tape from the spot, the police added. A murder case has been filed against him at Hari Nagar police station, New Delhi.

The couple has three daughters. While two of them had gone to visit their grandmother a few days ago, one was at a tutor’s place at the time of the incident. Harish had been unemployed for several years and was an alcoholic, said the police.

In a similar incident last month, a man allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times at their residence in Mumbai following an argument over suspicion of an affair. The couple’s 22-year-old son told the police that the man repeatedly assaulted his mother.
