There’s no doubt that foldable gadgets are the next big thing when it comes to mobile devices. This year, we can expect two major commercial releases of the first foldable phones from Samsung and Huawei, and analysts expect that this can usher in a new era in mobile phones.

Glaringly absent in the field is Cupertino giant Apple, which has always been at the forefront of every innovation. Apple is expected to come out with their own version of the foldable iPhone sometime next year, long enough to be considered late in the game.

However, some analysts are saying that the timing could actually be good for the tech giant and that they are sure that they’ll be using this time to come up with an even more impressive foldable device to offer in the market. And based on patents that seem to pertain to what’s expected to be the iPhone X Fold, the analysis could be true.

Apple has patents on a technology that could regulate the heat of a gadget’s crease to avoid folding damage. This issue is something Samsung and Huawei seem to have failed to address so the Cupertino company looks like it is on the right track with its foldable smartphone’s design.

The popularity of the iPhone X Fold is so strong that some people are seeing the possibility of a gorgeous design for next year’s reveal. One concept design that stands out is the one designer Roy Gisling created because his creation stays true to the aesthetics of most Apple products.

According to a report, the iPhone X Fold is likely going to be a commercial success because it will showcase a familiar design that Apple users can relate to and that’s of the MacBook.

Based on the next iPhone’s OS, Apple’s foldable device would look like an iPad Mini that’s been folded in half, creating a two-in-one device that combines a tablet and the iPhone X.

But not only that, the feature will mimic the feel of a MacBook, Apple’s popular laptop. The next smartphone could have the inward screen that the MacBook has. The concept design also has the anodized aluminum finish, which further alludes to the character of the MacBook. Opening the fold is also said to have the feel of opening the MacBook, making it seem like you have a mini version on the palm of your hand.

Another concept design also offers a unique take on the iPhone X Fold. Based on the designs by Antonio De Rosa, the iPhone X Fold is imagined as capable of folding out to become two side-by-side iPhones which can be completely shut. This concept offers a lot of imaging possibilities that are bound to make the Apple phone more exciting compared to its competition.

Of course, these are all concept designs for now, and we still have a good year to go before being presented with the actual design. Still, one can’t help but feel excited about the many possibilities Apple could put into its foldable device.
