Khan made a name for himself in Hollywood and can be considered one of the finest Indian actors of his generation. His movie credits include “The Amazing Spider-Man," "Life of Pi" and "The Lunchbox." But it was "Slumdog Millionaire" that really catapulted him into stardom. The movie went on to become a smashing success globally, earning Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Score. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie raked in $378,021,385 worldwide.

Born Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan, the Indian actor graduated from the National School of Drama in New Delhi, India. Per Celebrity Net Worth, Khan received numerous awards for his portrayals, among them are three Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award for Best Actor.

His passing, which tragically coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, is tragic as many aspiring actors from India who hope to break into the Hollywood scene look up to him as a role model. Moreover, Khan’s mother passed away just days before his untimely demise, leaving the family broken during this time.

By starring in films of different genres, he proved that Indian actors can also act and go beyond the box they are usually confined in. Khan’s versatility earned praise from politicians like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi and his colleagues from the acting industry like Kamal Haasan and Karan Johar, Aljazeera reports.

He is described by his fellow actors as someone who does not need to have a nice body, good-looking face and dance moves typically associated with Bollywood actors but managed to succeed due to talent alone. News18 reports that his friends painted him as someone who was genuine and did not use any connection to land movie roles.

Unknown to many, the talented actor almost did not enter the showbiz industry. He showed potential as a cricket player but unfortunately did not have the resources to pursue a career in the sport.

According to Express, Khan is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and his two sons. He died surrounded by his family and loved ones after getting treatment for colon infection.
