  • Jamie Chadwick set to continue as Williams development driver for 2020
  • She won the inaugural female-only W series in 2019
  • She aims to one day race for Formula One

W series champion Jamie Chadwick is set to continue in her role as a Williams development driver for the 2020 season.

The announcement means Chadwick is going to increase her simulator program work.

The 21-year-old won the inaugural female-only series in 2019, and her bright start to the championship won her a development driver position at Williams.

For 2020, Chadwick claimed she is going to increase the work she does in the simulator and be fully immersed in the team dynamics.

She stated that it would be a great opportunity for her to work with Williams. The time she spent in the simulator has been quite valuable.

Deputy team principal, Claire Williams, said that she has enjoyed watching Chadwick develop and excel both with the team and during her time racing in W series.

Chadwick did a great job promoting women in motorsport, according to Williams, and they are proud of the work she has accomplished.

Chadwick is set to race in the W series again for 2020 partly because of the fact the championship now qualifies for points for a Formula 1 super license.

As well as winning the first W Series, Chadwick was also a part of the class winning team at the Nurburgring 24 hour race in Germany.

Before that, she had also accumulated several firsts for a female racing driver. She won the 2015 British GT GT4 title. She also won a race the 2018 Formula 3 championship and won the 2018/19 MRF winter series.

For her, the ultimate dream remains breaking into Formula One, and the news to remain with the Williams Racing driver academy takes her closer to the objective.

She said that it had been a great chance working with the team in her role as a development driver.

Knowing the challenges of Formula One entry, Chadwick has previously stated that she does not want to get there if it is not by merit.

The sport has never before had a female driver in Formula One, so it would be groundbreaking history to see her in that position.

She also added that if she were to get into a formula one car at this time, it would not do justice for the cause of women in motorsport, so it is clear that she respects the process.

Williams is set to field a new race line up for the next season. Newcomer Nicholas Latifi will race alongside George Russell as Robert Kubica retires.
