“Jane the Virgin” Season 4 is going to bring back the Jane (Gina Rodriguez), Rafael (Justin Baldoni) and Petra (Yael Grobglas) love triangle in a really big way.

When Season 3 left off, Rafael fell back in love with Petra, only to be confused about his feelings for Jane when her heart started glowing for him again. When push comes to shove, who will Rafael choose? And if he does choose Jane, will she be ready for him especially now that her first love Adam (Tyler Posey) has resurfaced?

Baldoni actually teased about an “intense” scene next season with Jane, Rafael and Petra. He raved about the performances of Rodriguez and Grobglas, saying that they “put so much into their craft and balance it with kindness and respect.”

When asked earlier during an interview with The CW if Rafael would pick Jane or Petra, Baldoni answered that Rafael does not know. “I think to be Rafael is very confusing right now. Jane was the love of his life. And then he had to watch her marry Michael, and he made a very conscious choice to put his feelings aside for Jane and to be there for his son. And he hasn’t let any feelings for Jane creep in for the last few years,” he explained.

“And there’s Petra who he got to watch raise his girls. And Petra was there for Rafael every step of the way - with the hotel, with everything he was dealing with. I think naturally, he developed feelings for her,” Baldoni continued.

As for Jane, she is quite happy with their “co-parenting situation” so she might not want to risk disrupting that. In fact, she might ignore her feelings for Rafael just so things can stay the same way as they are. “Jane’s mentality is to never disrupt something harmonious, but I think she can’t deny there’s a connection she has with Rafael and will always have,” said Rodriguez.

On the other hand, Petra will waste no time healing her wounds because executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman told TV Line she’s going to have lots of interesting paramours in “great, twisty, turn-y love life this year.”

“Jane the Virgin” Season 4 will return on The CW on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. EDT.
