Coming off a heartbreaking Season 3, “Jane the Virgin” Season 4 strove to bring love and light back into the life of Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez).

For this very reason, Rodriguez told Elite Daily that Season 4 has become “her favorite so far.” She explained, “Joy, happiness, Jane getting back on her feet, rising above grief, learning her prowess… it’s just a really well written season.”

Rodriguez is also appreciative how show creator and executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman considers the opinions of the cast, and weaves their thoughts into the show.

“She listens to our conversations, watching people interact day-to-day,” Rodriguez said. “So much of what comes out on the show is from Jennie’s experiences. The stories from writers, or stories they hear, they’re all common, true, and pertain to real life. We don’t sugarcoat anything.”

Meanwhile, Urman told Deadline that Jane will be pretty torn between her first love Adam Alvaro (Tyler Posey) and baby daddy Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) this Season 4.

Not everybody was keen to see Jane fall back in love with Adam, but the “Jane the Virgin” newbie is so fun and lovable that fans can’t help but root for him as well. “It’s a pretty romantic love story I think!” Urman said of Jane and Adam’s story. “But you can’t rule out Jane and Rafael and their connection. You’ll have to watch and see… I will say there are some pretty romantic moments this season.”

However, Jane and Rafael will have to deal with some money issues first when it comes to raising their son, Mateo. “Money problems continue to complicate Jane/Mateo/Raf’s life and that is one of the major changes this season. Jane has become used to the privilege that Rafael’s money provided; she got used to the cushion — especially with regards to child-rearing. And she is surprised by how used to it she’s become,” said Urman.

Rafael embraced his douche side again in an attempt to get the Marbella Hotel back, but it’s going to take a while since Urman teased that he’s going to get a surprising new job.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 4 airs every Friday on The CW at 9 p.m. EDT.
