Jeremy Lin's net worth peaked when he was in the NBA. Is the move to China more profitable for the Asian-American guard?

Lin has an estimated net worth of $36 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. He played in the NBA for nine seasons which is enough for him to receive a veterans minimum deal. Lin played last season in Toronto Raptors and won a title in his last year in the league.

He received no contract offers in the NBA which prompted him to look elsewhere. The Beijing Ducks reportedly offered a $3 million per year deal and he agreed to play for them this season. The Ducks are known to sign players from the NBA, their last import being Stephon Marbury.

Playing in China can be a good option for NBA players who are looking to regain their mojo. Other notable players who plied their trade in Chinese Basketball Association are Jimmer Fredette, Greg Oden, Steve Francis, Luis Scola, Metta World Peace, Gilbert Arenas and Michael Beasley, among others.

At the height of his career, Lin inspired the New York Knicks to consecutive wins sans star player Carmelo Anthony. Lin hit big shot after big shot which earned him the nickname "Linsanity". The jersey sales in the NBA reflected his immense popularity during that time. In just his second year in the league, Lin sold more jerseys than Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

Another good thing about playing overseas is that players get to establish and build their brand. Lin recently signed with Xtep to promote basketball shoes, South China Morning Post reports. Xtep is more known for producing running shoes. The former Raptor represented Nike, Adidas and Tag Heuer before.

The former Los Angeles Lakers guard lived in California in a house allegedly worth at least $750,000. He also lived briefly in Trump Tower in White Plains which carries a monthly rental fee of $3,800. He drives a Maserati worth $100,000.

With all his success and fame in the NBA, Lin knows how to give back. He donated $1,000,000 to Harvard University in 2016 to restoring the Lavietes Pavilion and aid struggling students.

Basketball is fast becoming the most popular sports in China owing to its former national team player and NBA Hall of Famer Yao Ming. If Lin can lead his team in victory, endorsement deals and even a contract extension could be knocking on his doors soon.
