Marvel characters have a tendency to come back from the dead, and it seems the comic book giant’s Netflix shows will honor that tradition. “Jessica Jones” Season 2 will bring back David Tennant’s villainous Kilgrave.

The mind-controlling character made Jessica (Krysten Ritter) his brainwashed girlfriend, but the private investigator became immune to his powers. She used her own super strength to snap his neck in the “Jessica Jones” Season 1 finale, which was first released in late 2015. Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Tennant is back on set filming scenes in Kilgrave’s iconic purple suit once again.

So why is Kilgrave back? Well, he may have avoided death somehow. However, it could also be a flashback. “Jessica Jones” focuses on a private investigator dealing with her past. In the first season, much of her trauma was related to Kilgrave controlling and raping her. That kind of post-traumatic stress likely won’t end just because Jessica snapped her rapist’s neck. She might still be haunted by memories of him.

While Kilgrave will appear in “Jessica Jones” Season 2, audiences will also be introduced to some new faces. Actress Leah Gibson will play Ingrid, a nurse who is also street-smart, according to Variety. Though that description sounds a lot like Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), fans believe that Ingrid is in fact a very different comic book character.

The theory is that she is Typhoid Mary, who is typically a “Daredevil” villain. She suffers from dissociative Identity disorder. Typhoid Mary and Bloody Mary are violent alter egos, and her powers include the ability to move things with her mind and set things on fire at will. Marvel Television, of course, has not confirmed if these rumors are true. It’s worth noting that Ingrid is a series regular, so whoever she is, she will play a large part.

As previously reported, J.R. Ramirez has also been cast in a recurring role as Jessica’s new superintendent, Oscar. The single father’s son becomes very interested in the superhero living in their building. Like any concerned parent, though, Oscar worries about the danger that follows Jessica everywhere she goes.

Before worrying about enemies in “Jessica Jones” Season 2, fans should worry about what she is going up against in “The Defenders” later this week. The highly-anticipated eight-episode series will show Jessica, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones) and Daredevil (Charlie Cox) teaming up to fight an evil that caught all of their attention.

The quartet will be working together to fight Alexandra (Sigouney Weaver). It still hasn’t been revealed exactly who the villain is yet, but sneak peek videos have teased that she seems to be above Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho), who is in charge of the Hand. She isn’t just in charge of Gao. She will also be responsible for bringing Elektra (Elodie Yung) back to life and making the assassin her personal weapon. Alexandra has to be pretty powerful to be in control of so much.

“The Defenders” premieres Aug. 18 on Netflix. “Jessica Jones” Season 2 is expected to debut on Netflix in 2018, but an exact date has not been set.
