Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter revealed sad news Wednesday. After recent liver surgery, the 90-year-old discovered he had cancer.

"Recent liver surgery revealed that I have cancer that now is in other parts of my body," Carter said in a statement, according to a tweet from New York Times reporter Alan Blinder. "A more complete public statement will be made when facts are known, possibly next week,” the former president added.

He will undergo treatment at Emory University in Atlanta, WAGA-TV reporter Jennifer Banks tweeted. “I will be rearranging my schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment by physicians at Emory,” Carter said.
