Joe Lacob is a majority owner of the Golden State Warriors. Now that the team won the NBA championship with a Game 6 victory over the Boston Celtics, many are wondering who he is and how much he is worth.

Here is a look at how Lacob became the owner of the Golden State Warriors and how rich he is.

As per Forbes, the 66-year-old’s net worth stands at $1.5 billion.

Lacob made the majority of his money from working at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He started working for the firm in 1987 and eventually became partner.

While he was with the firm, he led investments in over 50 startup companies.

Before buying the Warriors from Chris Cohan for $450 million in 2010, Lacob was a minority owner of the NBA's Boston Celtics for five years.

The purchase shocked the world because it was assumed that Oracle co-founder, Larry Ellison – the highest bidder, would be the Warriors’ next owner.

As per reports, Lacob's ownership experience in Boston and the fact that he was a decade-long season-ticket holder were key factors that led Cohan to decide to sell him the team.

Lacob’s purchase of the Warriors was the largest sale of a team in the league's history at that time.

Under his ownership, the Warriors won four championships.

Lacob said that the recent title his team won against the Boston Celtics is the most meaningful one for him.

"It means the world," Lacob said during Larry O'Brien's NBA Championship trophy presentation. "I want to give all the credit to these players and coaches. This is probably the most meaningful [title]."

"We came back [to the Finals]. The last two years were very difficult, and everything they [players] had to go through… The injuries… It's fantastic, and I love everyone for what they have done," Lacob added.
