John Cena has had quite a career, confidently conquering the world of wrestling and exploring his acting skills. Despite what looks to be a strong and bold exterior, Cena recently admitted that he was quite terrified when he proposed to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33.

While doing press for his upcoming movie “Ferdinand,” Cena told Be that he was a bit nervous during his engagement, when he got down on one knee in front of tens of thousands of WWE fans.

“The WWE audience as you know sometimes can be a little excited both positively and negatively,” the star explained.

Cena feared that wrestling fans who were not fond of him would ruin his proposal to Bella. “I was worried about that the audience would have a negative reaction to what I did,” he said.

“If you go back and you watch that match the one before the proposal they didn’t necessarily like me that much and then when they found out I was making one of the boldest moves of my entire life, 75,000 folks showed respect,” Cena added.

The star got lucky during his proposal and fans in the audience cheered for Cena and Bella during the proposal. “I was so very humbled and flattered by the great show of respect they had for a genuine moment,” he said.

Getting down on one knee and proposing to the love of his life was a special moment for Cena, who is typically seen as a fierce competitor in the WWE universe. Cena previously told Entertainment Tonight that he enjoys allowing people to see his sentimental side.

“The ability on shows like ‘Total Bellas’ [is] to be able to show kind of who I am as a human being,” he explained.

The wrestler explained that he takes pride in his ability to be romantic and kind when it comes to spending time with his fiancée.

“And certainly the public relationship I have with Nicole showing a little bit of, like, the fact that I do enjoy a romantic time with my wife to be. I think it sends the message that it’s OK to be yourself,” he said.

Cena and Bella have yet to announce a date for their wedding but are in the process of planning their special day.
