John Mulaney, who recently confirmed that his girlfriend Olivia Munn is pregnant, has made millions from his work as an actor, stand-up comedian and writer. Here's how he built his fortune.

His success on television and stand-up allowed Mulaney to amass a net worth of $6 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

The 39-year-old Chicago native pursued a career in comedy right after graduating from Georgetown in 2004. After moving to New York City, he got a job as an office assistant at Comedy Central but later quit to focus on writing and performing.

Mulaney gained attention in 2008 after appearing in several major late-night television shows, including “Late Night with Conan O'Brien.” That year, he was offered the chance to audition for “Saturday Night Live” and was hired for a spot on the writing team, where he worked for six seasons, according to Billboard.

While he was working as a writer on “Saturday Night Live,” Mulaney also released a stand-up comedy album called “The Top Part” and a stand-up comedy special titled “New in Town.”

During his time on the NBC show, Mulaney occasionally appeared on the “Weekend Update” segment. He also teamed up with actor Bill Hader to create the recurring character, Stefon, who is played by Hader. He was nominated with the rest of the “SNL” writing staff for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series before he left in 2013.

Mulaney then went on to create and star in the Fox sitcom, “Mulaney,” which was canceled in 2015 after just one season. He was reportedly paid a little more than $25,000 for the show, according to WealthyGenius.

The comedian continued to write for television projects, including “Maya & Marty,” “Oh, Hello on Broadway,” “Documentary Now!” and the “Comedy Central Roast” of James Franco. He also appeared in the television shows “Crashing” “Portlandia” and “Difficult People” in minor roles.

In 2015, Mulaney released his third stand-up comedy special, “The Comeback Kid,” which was critically acclaimed and was featured on Netflix. The special earned him another Emmy nomination.

He went on a two-month stand-up comedy tour in 2017. One of his New York City performances was recorded for a Netflix special called “John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City,” which later earned the comedian the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.

Mulaney went on another comedy tour in 2019, this time with fellow stand-up Pete Davidson for a limited series of sold-out shows titled “Sundays with Pete & John.” Mulaney also returned to host “Saturday Night Live” four times since he left the show.

In an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Tuesday, Mulaney announced that he and Munn are expecting their first child together. The comedian revealed the news after detailing his struggles in the past year, including his stint in rehab for drug abuse and his divorce from his wife of six years, Anna Marie Tendler.

Mulaney said he moved out of the home that he shared with Tendler after he got out of rehab in October 2020 and traveled to Los Angeles, where he reconnected with and started dating Munn in the spring. The two first met at Seth Meyers’ wedding in 2013, according to CNN.
