Johnny Depp was very close to his late mother, Betty Sue Palmer. The latter passed away at the age of 81 in 2016.

According to TMZ, Palmer was not a big fan of Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard. In fact, sources told the publication that Depp’s mom and his siblings thought that Heard was a gold digger who will use him to help boost her career.

The speculations surrounding Heard and Palmer’s relationship became rifer after the latter’s death. While Depp was still mourning the loss of his beloved mother, Heard filed for divorce from the actor.

Depp’s mom and Heard’s relationship started to become strained after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star was forced to move his mother into a Los Angeles compound that he was living in with Heard.

But People painted Heard in a positive light. The publication claimed that Heard was by her mother-in-law’s side while she was battling her illness. A source also claimed that the “Aquaman” star regularly visited Palmer at the hospital.

The source also confirmed the previous claim that Depp and his siblings are very close to their late mother.

“They are a close-knit family with a special bond with their mom, who tied it all together. They took good care of her. She had been gravely ill for the last few years but they made sure she was well taken care of and had the best treatment. Johnny was very close to his mom,” the source said.

Meanwhile, a source close to Heard said that the actress enjoyed her relationship with Palmer from the start. However, it is unclear if Depp’s mom felt the same way about her.

The source said that it was also Heard that suggested for her and Depp to get married at his mom’s house. And the insider added that Heard is close to Depp’s son, Jack.

In related news, Depp took a break from his ongoing court case against Heard to promote his new movie, “Minamata.” The film follows the life of photographer W Eugene Smith, who Depp will play in the movie.
