Johnny Depp's fans are remembering the actor's look at the 2014 Met Gala as this year's event took place Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

After being postponed for several months last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Met Gala took place on time this year, with celebrities such as Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B and Kylie Jenner, among many others, gracing the red carpet.

One star who didn't make an appearance this year is Depp, whose defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard is currently underway in Virginia. But fans of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor took to Twitter Monday to revisit his last appearance at the annual fundraising ball back in 2014.

"In honor of the Met Gala tonight, I'm bringing back Johnny Depp's iconic 2014 appearance. Enjoy," one fan tweeted.

"[T]he way Johnny Depp at Met Gala 2014 would fit this year's theme as well. King behavior," another wrote.

"Let's never forget when Johnny Depp did THAT at the Met Gala," a third fan wrote.

"No one could top Johnny Depp's outfit at the 2014 Met Gala," a fourth netizen opined.

At the time, Depp made headlines after channeling his inner Mr. Peanut in his formal black tuxedo, complete with tails and black cane.

The Oscar-nominated actor accessorized with spectator spats, a gold pocket watch dangling from his waist, tinted glasses and white gloves to match the "Beyond Fashion" theme that year, according to Us Weekly.

Depp walked the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala with Heard, who was his fiancée at the time. The pair tied the knot in 2015 and split one year later.

The "Aquaman" actress wore a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture 4 silk gown with all-over embroidery. Her blonde hair was swept back into a teased updo, and she rocked a bold red lip to match her red nails. She completed her look with Fred Leighton diamond jewelry and her engagement ring from Depp.

Some social media users also suggested that some of this year's Met Gala attendees appeared to take style inspiration from the "Fantastic Beasts" star.
One user claimed Austin Butler gave off "Johnny Depp vibes," while another suggested that Shawn Mendes resembled Depp's character in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in his look for this year's ball.

"Why is Shawn Mendes at the Met Gala giving Johnny Depp in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'?" one Twitter user joked.

Another tweeted: "Austin Butler [looks like a] young Johnny Depp in the Gilded Age. #MetGala approved."

The Met Gala is traditionally held every first Monday in May to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Last year, the event was moved to September due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This 2022 dress code is gilded glamour and white tie to match the theme "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," a continuation of last year's "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion."

Channeling the time period between 1870 to 1890, the event asks its attendees to "embody the grandeur — and perhaps the dichotomy — of Gilded Age New York," according to Vogue.

Depp is currently suing Heard over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she wrote about surviving domestic abuse. Depp acknowledged that he wasn't mentioned by name in the op-ed but argued that it was referring to him and their past relationship and that the "fictitious" claims allegedly ruined his career.
