  • Mourinho's Spurs are at the top of the league table on goal difference

Jose Mourinho has said he could stay at Tottenham Hotspur for a long time after he was not given enough time to execute his plans at his former club Manchester United.

After starting the 2018–19 season with just seven wins in the first 17 Premier League games, leaving Manchester United 19 points behind the league leaders, Mourinho was shown the door by the Red Devils.

The Portuguese manager replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs boss last season. Mourinho, who recently completed one year with the North London club, has had a flying start to the 2020-21 season. After 12 matches into the Premier League campaign, Spurs are at the top of the table and level on points with second-placed Liverpool FC, who are the defending champions.

Spurs and Liverpool are set to face off in the Premier League at Anfield on Wednesday, and the winner of the game will claim the No. 1 spot in the table.

Mourinho has experienced quick success with many clubs in his remarkable managing career, but he has admitted that he felt his stint at Manchester United was cut short ahead of time when he was fired.

"In a certain period of my career, with a profile of club I was getting in hands, we didn’t need as much time to reach success. We did it at Porto, Inter, Real [Madrid], Chelsea, both times, we did it without that need of that longevity and also my desire to try different things and my crazy desire to go to many countries, and to try to win it, and try to get different experiences in many different countries, was perfect because was about winning, and goodbye, and let’s try another thing," Mourinho was quoted by Goal, as saying in an interview.

Adding further in the interview, Mourinho said, "The first club where I felt I need time and time was not given was at Manchester United because I felt that I left at the middle of the process, but I learn very early to respect decisions, which I did at United. We did what we did, we did what was possible to do, and we move on. I am happy, they are happy, and we have a great relation, which is something I am very proud always to say, when I leave clubs, I keep a very good relationship with everybody, and United is one more example of that."

Mourinho, who has been a soccer manager for more than two decades, has said he is enjoying his job profile at Tottenham, he believes that the club is happy with his work, and now he can see himself with the side for a long time.

"Now, in Tottenham, I know the profile of job I have in hands, and hopefully until now I am enjoying very, very much to be in the club, I believe that the club is happy to work with me, so I see myself staying for a long time, but if we can accelerate the process, like we are accelerating, and being doing good things like we are doing, of course, we are not going to waste time," Mourinho said.
