Justin Bieber spoke candidly about how too much sex can be painful and his decision to remain celibate for more than a year before tying the knot with Hailey Baldwin.

JB and his model wife are gracing the cover of Vogue’s latest issue and for their feature story, the young couple opened up and discussed a lot of things surrounding their relationship and their marriage.

Bieber, 24, came clean about using Xanax just to forget about his “super-promiscuous” ways in the past. This led him to reveal that he had had this “legitimate problem” with sex for a time that he opted to not have any sex for more than a year prior to rekindling his romance with Baldwin, 22, last June.

The “Sorry” hitmaker confessed that the problem became evident when he started to get addicted to sex, so much so that he was not getting any pleasure out of it any longer. To remedy the situation, the recording artist turned to God.

“He doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” Bieber explained. “He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain. I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth.”

For Selena Gomez’s ex-boyfriend, his decision to abstain from sex drew him nearer to God and so he was blessed with Baldwin as a result. He believed that God rewards people for good behavior and his wife is that reward for him.

However, Bieber admitted that since he has abstained for too long, this played a part in their rushed courthouse wedding. Bieber and Baldwin’s wedding date wasn’t made public. However, they were spotted entering a marriage license courthouse in the Big Apple on Sept. 13 of last year.

When news outlets reported that they might have already exchanged vows that day, Baldwin took to Twitter to insist in a now-deleted tweet that they were “not married yet,” as pointed out by Harper’s Bazaar.

However, their marital status was confirmed in November when Bieber updated his Instagram with a photo of him and Baldwin, which he captioned, “My wife is awesome.” Around the same time, Baldwin changed her username to @haileybieber.

In their interview with Vogue, Baldwin disclosed that they do have some bad times even though they are happy to be married. “The thing is, marriage is very hard,” she said. “It’s really [expletive] hard.”
