Kate Middleton is banned from doing certain things after saying “I do” to Prince William.

On Wednesday, the Duchess of Cambridge turned 37 years old. As a tribute to the royal mom of three here are some facts about Middleton. This time, we will discuss the things she stopped doing after joining the royal fold.

Eat birthday cake before the Queen

Traditionally, the birthday celebrant gets the first slice of her cake. However, royals don’t practice the same thing.

Based on royal protocol, no one is allowed to eat before Queen Elizabeth II, including one’s birthday cake. In addition, Middleton and the rest have to stop eating when Her Majesty stops.

Accept presents

The royals are very popular so they tend to receive gifts from all over the world. However, royal protocol suggests that they do not accept any gift from businesses or people they don’t know. Middleton is expected to do the same except for when she’s given a bouquet of flowers, consumable items or copies of books.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also received tons of wedding gifts after exchanging wedding vows last May. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned those gifts that were said to worth millions.

Take birthday selfies

While most birthday celebrants love to take selfies on their special day, the members of the royal family are not allowed to do the same. Whenever they do, it would be considered a violation of the royal family’s rule.

Wear colored nail polish

Women love to wear different colors of nail polish, but the members of the Firm including Middleton are only allowed to wear subtle pinks or clear polish. They are not allowed to wear bright nail colors in public. Queen Elizabeth II, herself, has maintained wearing Essie’s “Ballet Slippers” shade for 28 years already.

However, some royals still break this. Princess Eugenie made headlines years ago for her extreme nail art.

Wear shorts

From time to time Middleton can still wear pants just like the Duchess of Sussex. However, she was never seen wearing shorts again after marrying Prince William.

Years ago, the Duchess of Cambridge was photographed wearing a green sequined blouse and bright yellow shorts in a roller disco in London. However, she never dressed like that again after joining the royal family.
