Kate Middleton can’t reportedly make private calls to Queen Elizabeth whenever she wants to.

Even though the Duchess of Cambridge and Her Majesty are reportedly close to each other, the future Queen still has to go through the monarch’s private secretary before she could talk to the 93-year-old royal on the phone.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fan Ravenwalker Robison said that no one can call or talk to the Queen directly without going through her private secretary first. Her Majesty’s private secretary then needs to talk to another secretary to make the necessary appointment.

But if the Queen wants to talk to any member of the royal family, she will summon them immediately. And most often than not, the members of the British clan would have to respond to Her Majesty’s request immediately.

“Not like in the prior centuries where the King or Queen would yell at someone to be summoned right away and they'd be routed/rousted from their quarters on the royal compound to be brought before their Sovereign to answer some query about whatever. England was always “civilized…” However, in modern times the requirements for appointments have become the norm with both public schedules and private schedule,” he said.

Laura Warwick Martin, a former fundraiser, said that no one picks up the phone to ring the Queen.

“If either Duchess wanted to speak to Her Majesty, they would have their secretary ring Her Majesty’s private secretary who would tell them if it was convenient or not, but no-one in the Royal Family phones just to say “hello”. That said, Her Majesty did call her mother for a regular chat but that was because they were very close and the Queen Mother was getting quite frail… Even then, the private secretaries did the actual calling,” she said.

But one royal fan said that she thinks the Queen owns a personal phone so she might also accept personal calls.
