Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s rumored feud is reportedly rejuvenating the spirit of Wallis Simpson.

During his interview with BBC Radio 4’s "Today" program, royal expert Martin Townsend said that even though the feud was never confirmed by the Duchesses and their husbands, it’s possible that it’s true because they appeared to have tension during their previous outings.

In the Channel 5 documentary “The Queen Mother: The Reluctant Queen,” it was revealed that this wasn’t the first time that an American divorcee found herself at the center of tensions between royal siblings because Simpson also experienced the same thing.

Prince William is believed to have expressed his concern over Prince Harry’s decision to wed Markle, who is an American divorcee. Simpson also experienced the same thing due to her relationship with King Edward VIII.

In the summer of 1936 and just 6 months after his accession, King Edward VIII went against royal protocol and took an extended holiday in Greece and in the Mediterranean with Simpson despite being advised against it by the government.

According to the documentary, the Queen Mother treated the arrival of Simpson with deep suspicion. And in one of the letters written by the Queen Mother to Queen Mary, the former called Simpson a naughty woman.

“Before Wallis came on the scene, Edward had been close to his brother and Elizabeth but their friendship soured badly when Edward began to put his mistress before his new duties as King,” the narrator of the documentary said.

Alastair Bruce, a royal historian, also said, “Both the Duke of York and the Duchess of York recognized that the Crown always came first but I think Edward VIII saw himself as the most important person in life, with his duty as a member of the royal family second.”

In related news, Markle was recently described as a grenade that was hurled into the archaic royal family just like what happened to Simpson.
