Kate Middleton, Prince William, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ smiles in their joint appearance “looked a little forced,” an expert said.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall made a rare joint appearance. On Tuesday, the four royals put on a united front when they visited The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre in Nottinghamshire. However, body language expert Judi James felt that there was still pain among the royals.

“The smiles might have looked a little forced at times,” James told Express.

“However, the way this new royal dream team worked to register a public display of unity showed how keen the ‘firm’ is to be seen as strong, resilient and ongoing in the face of dramas, scandals and even the sad breakdown of Peter Philip's marriage that was just the latest story to hit the headlines,” James said.

“It wouldn’t be an over-statement to suggest the future of the monarchy rests in these two couple's hands and, with the Queen clearly keen to be reassured that her legacy is intact, we might expect more of this kind of jovial, relaxed and warm-looking outings in a bid to prove that it is.”

The expert added that their smiles had the effect of showing their pain. But the four senior royals are sending a strong message of “business as usual” as they united to show group unity and happiness despite the dramas the royal family have been facing in the past few months.

James noticed that Middleton looked comfortable while Camilla’s gestures revealed slight tension. The royal mother of three also chose a perfect outfit for the outing by wearing a military-style suit which “perfectly defined her current role of powerhouse in the royal firm.” The expert added that Prince William’s wife is the bedrock of the royal family in terms of positive PR.

On the other hand, Prince Charles is giving the impression of being “king-in-waiting” as he walked ahead of Prince William, Middleton and Camilla. The heir apparent also showed enough chuckling, revealing the warm and fun side of him.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles is reportedly already open to giving his nieces Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice bigger roles in the monarchy following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit. The Sussexes’ departure has already slimmed down the monarchy and some members are getting old, leaving many positions that need to be filled.

Prince William is also supportive of the York princesses. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are convinced that Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have already proven themselves with dignity and they are confident that they will make the monarchy proud.
