Kate Middleton seemingly threatened to steal Camilla Parker Bowles’ limelight during the latter’s most high-profile social engagement, according to a biographer.

The Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Cornwall are both married to the future kings Prince William and Prince Charles, respectively. They are sometimes pitted against each other due to their roles as future queens.

According to Robert Jobson in his 2006 book “William’s Princess,” Camilla was upstaged by Middleton in one of her highest-profile appearances after she officially became a member of the royal family.

“It was the first time Kate had been invited to adopt such an elevated position on her own. She had arrived,” Jobson wrote.

“It was Camilla’s most high-profile social engagement yet, but she did not seem bothered by the presence of the younger woman who threatened to steal her limelight; quite the opposite. She appeared warm and welcoming.”

Jobson believed that Middleton was nervous because it was the first time she was invited to join the royals for a public outing. If there was someone who could better understand the duchess it would be Camilla. Prince Charles’ wife somehow made the outing more comfortable for Prince William’s then-girlfriend because they appeared like a family at the event.

“The pictures from that day, with Kate in full view, seemed to present a ‘new’ Royal Family of sorts. It was fresh and surprisingly attractive; more representative in its blended nature of the social realities of its subjects,” the author added.

Their friendly demeanor showed that Prince William’s relationship with Middleton at the time was getting serious. At the same time, it also suggested that Camilla was fond of the duchess.

Meanwhile, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, when it comes to the two duchesses’ fate as the future queen of England, Middleton will certainly be given the title. However, Camilla will only be recognized as princess consort.

Nevertheless, Camilla is reportedly helping Middleton for her future role when Prince William becomes king. Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl said that Camilla has been grooming Middleton for years.

“She is in a great position to, possibly the best position, to give Kate advice on how to make it work,” Nicholl added.
