Katy Perry accepted the key to the Las Vegas Strip Wednesday. The 37-year-old singer then revealed during her speech that her "roots" are connected to the Entertainment Capital of the World.

"I have a lot of roots here, and this just feels so natural to be here," Perry said during the event held at AYU Dayclub in Resorts World Las Vegas. "My aunt was a showgirl here, my grandma was a seamstress here, my dad grew up here and ended up being a chauffeur."

Perry then shared that her parents got married in the same city, and this makes it feel "natural" for her to perform in it. The "Firework" artist currently performs her "Play" residency in Las Vegas.

"My parents met here and got married here," she revealed. "So it's only natural that I would be onstage here eventually. But I did not think I would be getting a key to the Strip, which I hope unlocks some better HVAC. It is really hot."

Perry received the key from Resorts World President Scott Sibella, Clark County commissioner Tick Segerblom and AEG/Concerts West Vice President John Nelson. Segerblom also made an official announcement that June 8 is "Katy Perry Day."

The official Twitter handle of Clark County Nevada shared the video of the announcement Thursday. It also shared a series of photos during Perry's acceptance of the key to the Las Vegas Strip.

"The Key to the Las #Vegas Strip presentation to @katyperry was also shown on @ResortsWorldLV huge 100,000 square foot tower LED screen," it wrote in the caption."Congratulations Katy! Happy Katy Perry Day!"

Perry also took to Twitter on Thursday to share a series of photos from the special event. She could be seen flaunting her green outfit and receiving the key in them.

"It was the HIGHLIGHT of my day yesterday receiving the [key emoji] to the strip," she captioned the images. "It's been so fun getting to PLAY in Vegas and I've felt so welcomed by the community idk what doors this opens but i might try to crash some hotel rooms now."

On the personal front, Perry welcomed a baby girl named Daisy Dove in 2020 with her fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom.
