World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Keith Thurman is looking forward to negotiating a title unification fight with International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. in the future.

Thurman last fought in March 2017 when he defeated Danny Garcia to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title and become the unified champion at 147 pounds.

However, injuries have kept him out of the ring since as one to his hand earlier this year saw him vacate his WBC title which was later won by Shawn Porter when he defeated Garcia in September.

Thurman's absence from the ring has led many to give up on a dream title unification fight with Spence, but the two still seem to want a fight as they interacted during the FOX Sports and Premier Boxing Champions press conference on Tuesday.

There, it was announced "One Time" will finally make his return to action when he defends his WBA title against Josesito Lopez on Jan. 26. Meanwhile, Spence will defend his IBF title against four-division champion Mikey Garcia in a super fight in Dallas on March 16.

When asked why he was not facing a natural welterweight instead, with a title unification with Porter initially slated, Spence took a shot at Thurman's injury problems.

"That's the fight [with Mikey Garcia] that's been offered to me," Spence said. "I think that's a big fight in Dallas. I thought the fight with Shawn Porter was going to happen but it somehow fell out. With Keith Thurman, he's going to stay injured as long as I keep winning. I don't think me and him are ever going to fight."

Thurman would reply soon after, and took a swipe not at himself, but at Floyd Mayweather, who many have criticized over the years for not fighting certain opponents during their prime.

"I look forward to getting back into the ring, establishing myself as the number one welterweight champion in the world, getting this [WBC] belt back and then negotiating for that big fight with Errol Spence, the one he thinks he'll never get," Thurman said. "I'm not Floyd Mayweather, son."

Thurman has a history of taking swipes at Mayweather and most recently, mocked his inability to knock out Conor McGregor clean during their boxing match last year.

As for his return, Thurman is looking forward to it and still believes he's the best welterweight as he referenced the nicknames of Adrien Broner, Spence and Garcia.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been back in the ring. I’m just going to prove what I’ve always proven, that I’m the best," Thurman said earlier. "That Keith 'One Time’ Thurman, I’ve been 'The Problem.' I am 'The Truth.' Your boy is 'Swift.'"

“Any name that they have, I’ve already shown all of those skills, talents and attributes, I plan on continuing to do it. A lot of people are itching. They say, ‘When are you coming back, champ?’ I’m itching to get back. So we’ll be back soon. We’ve got a fight date, and I’m truly looking forward to it. I’m going to perform like I always do.”
