Reality television star Khloe Kardashian is facing criticism after reports surfaced that she was behind a full-scale fireworks display, which erupted around midnight on Wednesday. The fireworks were allegedly part of a birthday party that Kardashian threw for rumored new boyfriend James Harden.

The Houston Rockets player turned 26 on Wednesday as the Kardashian-Jenner clan celebrated with him at a yacht party in Los Angeles. On that same evening, a fireworks display erupted off the coast of Marina del Rey.

According to ABC 7 News, Los Angeles City councilman Mike Bonin claimed that there were no permits issued for the aforementioned fireworks. “Disruptive celeb firework show that woke up thousands was NOT permitted by city or county. Checking if US Coast Guard did it. #stupidrude,” he tweeted.

The disruptive display reportedly lasted about 15 minutes. ABC 7 reporter Elex Michaelson tweeted about his first-hand experience of the incident.

Despite claims made by the councilman and the reporter, the same ABC 7 report stated that the U.S. Coast Guard authorized the fireworks. The Kardashian-Jenner clan as well as other friends of the birthday celebrant were reportedly aboard the Fantasea Yacht, when they viewed the extravagant display.

Members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan posted several photos from the gathering on their respective social media sites. Harden and several other friends were seen enjoying themselves during the party. Kanye West and a handful of rappers and NBA players were also spotted.

The Houston Rockets star and Khloe Kardashian sparked relationship rumors when they were seen in Las Vegas during the 4th of July weekend. They have since been spotted together on several other occasions, including Kylie Jenner’s birthday dinner earlier this month.
