“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Khloé Kardashian threw her husband, former Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom, a birthday party at Cedars-Sinai hospital in California on Friday, but it wasn’t a happy celebration. Kardashian brought down the mood when she, her mother and sister Kim entered, Radar Online wrote in an exclusive report Monday.

The hospital staff went out of their way to make Odom's 36th birthday special. “Hospital staff decorated his room with used streamers, including a ‘Congratulations, it’s a boy’ sign! The staff was very resourceful in collecting the decorations from around the hospital,” an insider said. Odom wasn’t offended by the hand-me-downs and found them funny.

The party was in full swing when Kardashian, 31, her mother, Kris Jenner, and sister Kim Kardashian West arrived. “The mood in the room changed, and Lamar got subdued. Kim and Kris were friendly but Lamar didn’t understand what they were doing there. Lamar just felt awkward and was very emotional,” the source said.

Later that night, the Kardashian and Jenner family went on to celebrate the matriarch’s 60th birthday in a lavish "Great Gatsby"-themed celebration.

Odom previously accused Kardashian of visiting him at the hospital for publicity and he thought Kardashian West, 35, was doing the same thing. In an episode of “KUWTK,” the wife of Kanye West slammed her sister for keeping in contact with her estranged husband.

“The entire family is fake and Lamar knows the only reason they showed up was to get more publicity,” the insider said. “Lamar has seen that episode, and just couldn’t understand why Kim, especially, was sitting in his hospital room on his birthday, pretending that nothing had happened.”

The last time he accused Kardashian of being insincere they got into a nasty fight. She said he was “ungrateful” and lashed into him. “Lamar was so upset and by the time Khloé left, he was in tears. She was such a martyr; reminding him she had put her life on hold after the overdose. It was extremely mean-spirited of Khloé to do,” an insider told Radar Online in a different story.

The E! reality star denies she used Odom’s hospitalization for her benefit. “My people cover, I shot and interviewed for PRIOR to all the events that happened,” she tweeted Oct. 28 about a People magazine cover story. “It was contracted press for my book that I wrote months and months ago. Timing is what it is.” She added: “Shame on you all for thinking the worst of me. It's been a tough few weeks. I don't need your f---ed up energy! Know the facts before you throw stones.”

Odom was found unconscious in a brothel outside of Las Vegas Oct. 13 after a suspected drug overdose. He was rushed to a hospital and given a 50-50 chance of surviving. After suffering several strokes and four failing organs, he is reportedly on the road to recovery.
