Toni Collette is starring in yet another Netflix series, but unlike “Unbelievable,” the “Knives Out” star is working with an all-female creative team. The show, “Pieces of Her,” will have 8 episodes -- each directed by Minkie Spiro, who previously directed episodes of shows like Marvel’s “Jessica Jones,” “Better Call Saul,” and “Fosse/Verdon.”

The all-female creative team, which includes executive producers Lesli Linka Glatter, Charlotte Stoudt and Bruna Papandrea, will tell the story of Laura and Andy Oliver. The southern mother and daughter duo's lives are turned upside down when Laura’s past comes to haunt her. Andy sets out on a cross-country journey in search of answers into her family’s dark past.

Collette plays Laura Oliver, a speech pathologist, and a mother who isn’t quite who she seems. So far, she has been the only cast member announced and there’s no news yet on who will play her daughter, Deadline reports.

The series is based on a best-selling 2018 book by Karin Slaughter, who has written numerous crime-thrillers that have garnered a lot of attention and have sold over 35 million copies while being translated in 12 languages. However, this is the first on-screen adaptation of one of her works. Lesli Linka Glatter, Charlotte Stoudt, and Bruna Papandrea all serve as executive producers with Stoudt penning the series and as series showrunner.

Lately, Collette has starred in several crime-drama critical hits, from the harrowing Netflix series “Unbelievable” and the darkly hilarious “Knives Out.” She also made her way to the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah with the film “Dream Horse,” directed by Euros Lyn.

According to Art & Design, the first season for the Netflix series “Pieces of Her” was meant to start filming in fall 2019. It’s unknown why it was delayed, but Collette’s role wasn’t announced until this year.
