Director David Cronenberg is all set to film his upcoming sci-fi movie, "Crimes of the Future," which is based on his own 1970 flick of the same name.

Besides directing the movie, Cronenberg has also penned the screenplay, and the production will start in Athens in August. The upcoming movie will star Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart and Léa Seydoux in the key roles.

The 78-year-old director last worked on the "Maps to the Stars" movie, which released in 2014.

"The film takes a deep dive into the not-so-distant future where humankind is learning to adapt to its synthetic surroundings," Crimes of the Future's logline reads, People reported.

"This evolution moves humans beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. While some embrace the limitless potential of transhumanism, others attempt to police it," the logline continued. "Either way, in this perfectly crafted Cronenberg world, which marks the iconic filmmaker's return to sci-fi, 'Accelerated Evolution Syndrome', is spreading fast."

According to the logline, the movie revolves around Saul Tenser's character, who is a beloved performing artist "who has embraced Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body."

Cronenberg told Deadline, "I have unfinished business with the future." The producer of the movie, Robert Lantos also shared his experience working with Cronenberg.

"To work with David Cronenberg is to embark on a journey exploring terrain where no one has gone before," he said. "Each of our collaborations has been an exhilarating adventure and David’s unwavering vision is what real cinema is all about."

"Crimes of the Future" will mark Lantos and Cronenberg's fourth collaboration. They have previously worked together on "Eastern Promises," which released in 2007 starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts. They also collaborated on 1999's release "eXistenZ" and 1996's "Crash" starring Deborah Kara Unger, Holly Hunter, and James Spader in the key roles.

Stewart is currently filming "Spencer," directed by Pablo Larraín and penned by Steven Knight. Last year, the 31-year-old "Twilight" fame was seen in movies like "Happiest Season" and "Underwater."
