Kyair Thomas, one of the 6-month-old infant twins rescued after being kidnapped in Ohio a month ago, has passed away.

Kyair died at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday after the Columbus Division of Police responded to a house on East Whittier Street after receiving a report about a baby not breathing, NBC 4 reported, citing local police.

Kyair was rushed to the Nationwide Children's Hospital where medics pronounced him dead, police told NBC.

Kyair and his twin brother Kason were kidnapped in December 2022 from outside a Papa John's outlet where their mother parked the car before briefly stepping away to pick up an order. The suspect, Nalah Jackson, 24, used the opportunity to steal the car along with the children in the backseat. A statewide Amber Alert was issued after the incident.

Kason was found just two days after in the same stolen car inside the parking lot of Papa John's, while Kyair was found at Dayton International Airport, more than 70 miles from Columbus, which police described as the "troubling aspect of this case."

Police were told by people at the airport that Jackson asked several passers-by for their phones to make a call. They were speculating that Jackson only wanted to keep one child and get rid of the other, ABC reported at that time.

Kyair apparently died from choking at the time of feeding, Crime Online reported, citing family members.

"Tonight we are living a nightmare with the community for a second time in less than a month. I'm questioning God, 'Lord why, Ky'air?' None of this seems real!" LaFonda Thomas, the grandmother of Ky'air and Kason Thomas, said in her statement for the community. "I'm begging the community again to have some compassion and empathy while lifting up our family, Kason, and his mother Wilhemnia, LaChez, my son, and the twins' father in prayer."

Wilma Booker, the aunt of the mother of the twins, told ABC 6 that they weren't expecting such a tragic turn of fate after what the child had endured.

"We're gonna continue to pray we're gonna continue to be together we're gonna continue to be there for each other the best way we know how," Booker said, adding, "I would tell him I gonna miss him, I'm gonna tell him that his mother loves him so much. I would tell him that I didn't have a lot of time with him, and how much his mother is really gonna miss him."
