KEY POINTS

  • The Los Angeles Lakers need to find a way to win games soon
  • Trading Russell Westbrook won't be easy if he continues to play lackluster games
  • The Lakers are implored to surround LeBron James with quality players

The Los Angeles Lakers are searching for answers, and the main issue is figuring out their Russell Westbrook problem.

The hit-or-miss performance of Westbrook practically rebukes the idea of keeping the 2017 NBA MVP in the fold, and the longer it takes for them to resolve the predicament places more pressure on top management.

According to longtime NBA journalist Roland Lazenby in an interview with PTV Sports, this needs to be checked as early as now, especially with the franchise still being winless in three games.

"Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Lakers will have to move heaven and earth together to trade Russell Westbrook. Losing a game when they were ahead by seven with about a minute to go, these are not good things," the veteran scribe pointed out.

Some good news for the Lakers is that it is only the start of the season.

But the front office is likely to be sitting on pins and needles hoping for a miracle.

All they can hope now is for the best with the pressure unsurprisingly high for them to start winning games.

"At present, things are extremely ugly for the Lakers. It is just few games into the season and probably the management of the Lakers, Jeanie Buss and her executives, they're sitting there with crossed fingers, hoping that somehow this team would start rebounding and shooting the ball," Lazenby stated.

But through it all, the reality is that the Lakers need to do something.

Especially with LeBron James in the tail-end of his NBA career, Los Angeles would be foolish not to act now and make the most out of having the four-time NBA MVP on the roster and possibly cop more NBA titles.

"Great basketball teams and great basketball executives are master realists. They only deal with what is real. The reality for the Lakers now is bad and ugly. It's not the kind of season you want to have as LeBron James comes down to his final games," the American journalist explained.

Lazenby also mentioned players like Duncan Robinson of the Miami Heat who could make sense for the Lakers.

But given the performance and humongous contract of Westbrook, getting a deal done does not look so promising.
