Las Vegas Explosion: 1 Killed After Fuel Tank Erupts Near Nellis Air Force Base

One person was killed because of a fire and explosion in North Las Vegas, near Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, as a fuel tank erupted in flames.
The fire and resulting explosion occurred around 11:20 a.m. PDT (2:20 p.m. EDT), a Nellis Air Force Base representative told KSNV-DT. The fuel tanks are housed in a rail yard close to the intersection of North Las Vegas Boulevard and Sloan Lane near the base. Nellis owns some of the tanks, according to the Las Vegas television station.
Traffic was being diverted away from the scene, according to KLAS-TV. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported firefighters and police were en route to the explosion site.
The body of the as-yet-unidentified victim was recovered from a nearby business, Nevada Truck & Trailer Repair, Clark County Fire Department Deputy Chief Erik Newman told KSNV.
