'The Last Kingdom' Season 4: Aldhelm Wants A United England Like Alfred

King Alfred’s (David Dawson) dream of a united England will live on “The Last Kingdom” Season 4. The idea will get support from the unlikely character Aldhelm (James Northcote).

In a recent interview with Winter Is Coming, Northcote shared some details about his character, including the idea that motivates him as the story moves forward. As an advisor for Aethelred (Toby Regbo), the character is in the middle of the political turmoil of Wessex, Mercia, and the invading Danes.

Northcote described his character as “sly and determined,” but there is also a “very principled side” to him. Aldhelm was seen working against Alfred at times, but the actor revealed that his character respected the late king and his vision for a united England.

Aldhelm wants a modern England that is peaceful and he doesn’t want to see the fighting between the Danes and the Saxons. The idea of a country that is flourishing and a country where there is justice is something that is appealing to him, according to Northcote.

The idea of a united England may not seem very outlandish in “The Last Kingdom” Season 4, thanks to the efforts of Alfred. But, there will be many challenges. The result will be an exciting new story. In an interview with Winter Is Coming, Northcote promised the fans “more action” and “more adventure.”

One of the challenges the heroes will face will come from the Dane Haesten (Jeppe Beck Laursen). Laursen told Winter Is Coming that they wanted to “go a little bit further” with the “goriness” and the “violence” on the show, and he hoped the fans will notice the difference when the show returns this year.

“The Last Kingdom” Season 4 is set to air sometime later this year. The producers are yet to announce an exact release date. More details may be revealed in the coming weeks.
