  • Sancho could leave Dortmund this summer, coach admits
  • The 20-year-old player has been Man Utd's prime target
  • Bayern have already pipped Dortmund to secure 8th straight title

Jadon Sancho has been Manchester United’s prime target ahead of the summer transfer window. The deal, however, looked unlikely to happen when Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund’s head of licensing player department, shot down the rumors about Sancho’s departure from the club.

“There is nothing to it. We'd like to think that he will continue to play for us next season, ”Kehl said in a recent interview.

Dortmund are second in the league table, 10 points behind Bayern Munich, who claimed their eighth straight Bundesliga title Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Werder. In the top-scorers chart, Sancho is currently third with 17 goals in 29 Bundesliga appearances this campaign, behind leader Robert Lewandowski (31) and Dortmund teammate Timo Werner (25).

In a recent interview, Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre has admitted that Sancho’s future in Germany still looks uncertain, and he could be among the players that leave the club this summer. Moreover, a source close to Sancho had told Sky Sports earlier that the 20-year-old Englishman is most likely to leave Dortmund at the end of the current season.

While the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid are interested in the services of Sancho, Man Utd are considered to be favorites in acquiring Sancho’s signatures at the upcoming transfer window for at least $124 million.

When asked about Sancho and on-loan Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi’s Dortmund futures, Favre said, "Obviously players will go and we hope that they stay but it's possible that they may also leave. You have spoken about two players who we don't know definitively what will happen – they could stay with us, that's clear and that would be good for me. We'll see what we'll do in defence, midfield or attack.”

Sancho, who still has two years left in his current contract, is not expected to renew it. Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to reinforce his side for next season and a talented and quick-paced Sancho would fit in well.

Man Utd are currently placed fifth in the Premier League table and Solskjaer’s boys will aim to pip fourth-placed Chelsea to ensure a Champions League qualification for 2020-21 season.
